The Rockit, Sunda and Underground guys get into the barbecue business next week with
Dragon Ranch
Moonshine & BBQ. No doubt, you have questions. Let’s break it down:
It’s just good old-fashioned American barbecue...
There’s oak, cherry and
hickory-applewood smoke on your ribs. A sizzling cast-iron skillet heats your rigatoni mac and cheese. A
caddy delivers all the regional sauces you require—sticky/sweet, mustardy, tangy and... well, Asian.
See, it’s also kind of Asian.
There’s bao with brisket. Roasted duck. Fish sauce
aged in bourbon barrels. And a
Dragon Egg: a duck egg wrapped in sausage and deep-fried. You knew
those chopsticks were on the table for a reason.
There really is a lot of moonshine...
They’ve got the city’s largest
white-lightning selection. They’re even partnering with Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, Michigan, to
make their own. (Look for Billy Dec driving the General Lee soon.) But it’s cocktails like the
Bushwhacker—think: a chocolate moonshine milkshake—that will curl your toes.
You’re going to make a lot of new friends...
The tables are communal, so make room. While you’re at it, point out the design details to
your new sticky-fingered friends—like that glass-bottle collection excavated from the basement that
survived the Great Chicago Fire. Now
that was a year for barbecue.
