Shacking Up

A New Shrimp Shack from DMK

Today, we bring news from the dark and rollicking sea.

Well, technically, it’s news from the corner of Sheffield and Wellington—but from now on, that counts.

Introducing Fish Bar, open today as your new purveyor of oysters, lobster rolls, shrimp cocktail and andouille sausage gumbo to help you rekindle that long-lost Mardi Gras magic.

You’ll find this place easily enough: it’s bright blue on the outside and adjacent to its sibling, DMK Burger Bar. But step inside, and you’ll find the heart of a gnarled old seafood shanty mixed with a touch of grizzled New Orleans oyster bar—reclaimed wood planks on the walls, rolls of paper towels on the bar for wiping that drip of cocktail sauce from your chin and... a giant canoe hanging from the ceiling.

Of course, this place departs from the usual shrimp shack formula in one key way: it’s overseen by Michael Kornick (DMK, MK), who’ll also be whipping up your ahi tuna tartare and salmon carpaccio.

You’ll come here with friends, but if you bring more than a few, you shouldn’t plan on sitting together, as it’s mostly bar seating here. Split a bowl of steamers, order the plank-grilled catch of the day from the chalkboard and a cold pint of beer—though they also have citrus cocktails, like a potent rum punch made with two types of rum.

That deserves a double yo ho ho.
