Your Guide to Boston’s Newest Patios

Funny. It seems like only yesterday you were... actually, let’s not reference the winter of ’15 ever again. Let’s think about the multitude of new, non-indoor seating situations this season has already delivered us. Keep being you, spring.

Shake Shack
THE BURGER PLAY

Shake Shack

The Scene: Thirty alfresco seats’ worth of prime Newbury Street real estate. Yes, there will be tiny dogs.
The Provisions: You’re here for ShackBurgers. Unless you’re here for whoopie pie concretes. Or wine on tap. What matters is: you’re here.

Tatte Bakery & Café
THE BRUNCH PLAY

Tatte Bakery & Café

The Scene: A handful of four-seaters and far more yoga-panted Beacon Hillites than they can reasonably provide for.
The Provisions: Croque madames, pastry baskets and enough gluten-rich treasures to make you a person who’s happy.

Mast
THE PIZZA PLAY

Mast

The Scene: An expansive downtown terrace where pizza-forward decisions are strongly encouraged.
The Provisions: Neapolitan pies topped with oyster mushrooms and truffle oil. Neapolitan pies topped with spicy Calabrese salami. Neapolitan pies topped with... wait, let’s also mention the 22-ounce bone-in ribeye. There.

Mast, 45 Province St, 617-936-3800

Earls Kitchen + Bar
THE MARGARITA PLAY

Earls Kitchen + Bar

The Scene: Ten marble tables equipped with heaters and umbrellas. Which fits with their motto: “Earls is always prepared.” We made up their motto.
The Provisions: Margaritas, palomas and serves-four teapots full of Pimm’s Cup. It’s like teatime, only infinitely better than teatime.

Select Oyster Bar
THE OYSTER PLAY

Select Oyster Bar

The Scene: A 22-seat shellfish oasis where questions like “Is the sea urchin served live?” are entirely within reason.
The Provisions: More than ample amounts of Sazeracs, Maine lobster and Siberian caviar. If you were considering a simple, no-frills night... maybe consider that elsewhere.
