2011. With the exception of the occasional bummer (see: Red Sox, flameout), it was a monster year, filled
with roof decks, sexy Asian lairs and barhopping by boat. Here are the highlights...
In the past, you had to scour the city for vintage Pendleton shirts, locally made tees and beer soap. Then
Sault opened, and suddenly there was a way to get all of it in one spot. Say thank you.
Where once pasta and pizza danced inside a Bertucci’s, there now resides a cavernous, dark-lit homage to
the sexy lairs of Asia (or at least Foxwoods). Bonus: their hot and sour soup is some of the best around.
Roof decks. There’s no such thing as too many. And 2011 saw two more come to town, by way of a neo–Green
Monster plopped on the top of Remy’s, and a swanky retractable-roofed one above Legal Harborside. Here’s
to spring...
For years, Kendall Square was a technological hotbed. But a beehive of amazing restaurants it was not. Until
2011, when a killer beer hall opened, followed by pizza bars, tapas spots and other gems. There’s never
been a better time to be a genius in Cambridge.
There are certain things that you don’t realize you need until someone invents them. Like bacon bits. Or
Cityside Harbor Shuttle, a wharf-to-wharf water taxi service, which greatly enhances your barhopping ability
near the water. And keeps your jeans dry.
If we’ve learned anything from TMZ, it’s that sensitive information can be hacked from your phone (see:
Scarlett Johansson’s fantastic... er, personal photos). So someone created this, which basically covers
your texting tracks, even if you forget to.
For months, hints were dropped about it. Finally, Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg joined burgering forces in
Hingham to open Wahlburgers. No, eating there does not guarantee you a walk-on role on Blue Bloods.
