Where You Go to... Float in Somerville

None We’re concerned about you.

Maybe it’s the snow. Maybe it’s work.

Maybe watching those llamas and staring at that dress are really stressing you out.

No worries. Nothing that floating inside a pitch-black steel tank can’t fix.

Harness your chi at Float, the only place in Massachusetts solely dedicated to helping you achieve total relaxation by lying in water and not doing much else, opening Wednesday in Somerville.

Floating. You’ve probably done it. But you’ve probably never done it in a big steel pod filled with warm water and 900 pounds of Epsom salts. Or maybe you have. This is a thing. Just not really here yet.

So you show up. You sit in a tiny lobby. Then someone leads you to your own room, where you’ll enter a pod without any light or sound. Then you start floating effortlessly because all those salts make the water denser than the Dead Sea. An hour to an hour and a half passes, and you’re ready to conquer the world again. Neat.

Oh, and if you come back in six months or so, they’ll have two Ocean Float Rooms. Those are eight-foot-high tanks that are big enough to stand in.

But mostly you’ll be floating.
