Mill Power
Drinking in an Old Mill on A Street

The Fort Point Channel was, for a short time, the newest hotbed of development in Boston. Then, all was quiet.

We're happy to report things are heating up again. Thanks to, of all things, an old mill.

Introducing Barlow's, the new American-style eatery and drinking haven in your life, opening this Wednesday on a long stretch of A Street in Southie.

Brought to you by the Warren Tavern and Devlin's Bistro people, Barlow's is carved from the remains of an old mill (believed to be a textile hub), and like any good cathedral of production, it's humongous (essentially one enormous room, with space for 260 workers/drinkers) and well-built (the exposed-brick wall is made of the original bricks).

All of which makes it the perfect venue for a few post-work beers or some later-in-the-night rabblerousing. Step up to the 30-seat bar (constructed out of original beams salvaged from adjacent mills) and pick from drafts like Endurance P.A., Long Trail, Harpoon UFO and Rapscallion, and bottles like the 17-ounce Paulaner Hefeweizen, the 16-ounce Narragansett and Magners Cider.

You'll also want to fortify with upscale pub grub like Bourbon Maple Glazed Pork Chops, Baked Penne with Sweet Italian Sausage and Philly Cheese Steak Spring Rolls.

Nothing says "titan of industry" like spring rolls.
