Black Sake and Sashimi in the South End

None 7 Photos Roka
Look, we hate to be all “Here’s a new sushi spot with a double-sided bar, a big private room and a bunch of black sake,” but...

Wait. Sorry, wrong email.

We don’t hate to do that at all. In fact, here, have Roka, a laid-back new sushi den that opens today in the South End.

It would behoove you to use it thusly:

Have a three (tuna) martini lunch.
Walk in. Notice that 40-foot, double-sided bar. Start at the side with the guys in paper hats. They make sushi. And if you need a cocktail, don’t order the tuna martini. Because the tuna martini is a martini glass filled with sashimi.

Then, segue over to the cocktail side.
Yeah, there’s a sake bar on the other side. It’s got sake sangria and Lotus Blossom cocktails with Ty-Ku black sake. And martinis made with not-tuna.

Or you could always just hold court with some friends.
Say, 49 of them. In the private room. It’ll be the screened-off place in the back stocked with all the Gekkeikan Horin sake and filet mignon ishiyaki seared tableside on hot stones.

It’s hot because cold stones aren’t good at searing things.
