Spicy Margaritas and Lava Stone in Brookline

None 6 Photos El Centro Brookline
You’ve got a problem.

Your friend, the one with the sexy sister you heard was coming to town... has just come to town. Brookline, to be exact.

Bad news: sisters are still off limits.

Good news: none of this applies to Mexican restaurants.

Sound the mariachis for El Centro Brookline, the sexy sister spot to the South End original, slated to bring watermelon sangria and other Mexican delights to Brookline Village this Friday.

If you’ve found yourself frequenting their South End digs, this will feel a lot like coming home. To a four-seat Mexican cypress wood bar. To hammered copper-top tables full of tequila and burritos and happy people putting those things in their mouths. So welcome home. Grab a seat and stay awhile.

They’ve brought all the usual Mexican suspects over from the other spot (read: burritos. Good ones). But expect some newness as well. Like their molcajetes. Think skirt steak and roasted poblano peppers served in a lava stone bowl (magma makes the pepper).

Oh, and pitchers of watermelon sangria. Those are new, too. So are the margaritas made with house-infused hot-pepper tequila and sugar rims.

They also have beer in case you hate new things.
