Proof that change is good, as long as it’s smart change. (For a reverse example, see: Brian Austin
Green... the rapper.)
So today we bring word of a similar type of transformation that’s less “Jack and Diane”-oriented, and
more
neighborhood
bar makeover-related...
Introducing
Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen, your new after-work, actually-on-the-corner South
End hangout from the team behind the old Bob the Chef’s, opening to the public Monday night.
If you’re a longtime South Ender, you’ll recall the legendary Bob the Chef’s joint, which held ground
for years before being sold, after which a few places tried going in (see: Stork Club). Well, the owners
bought the place back and have quickly spiffed it up—there’s a new coat of paint, new booth upholstery,
and overall it’s less music stage-y, more of a space to hang out, catch the game and drink.
Oh, and
eat. In addition to plates of
Black Pepper Pork Chop & Braised Pork Belly complementing
your beer, you’ll be glad to know that almost the entire menu was created as a head-nod to the old Bob the
Chef’s, so you’ll be seeing a lot of Southern-style goodness like
Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Salad,
Beer Battered Catfish and
North Carolina Style Pulled Pork
Sandwiches.
God bless the South.
