Perfect ’10

Everything That Was Important in 2010

As we look back on the beautiful maelstrom otherwise known as 2010, let us pause and pay our respects to a few of the city’s most groundbreaking moments that helped shape the very fabric of our lives. First up, grilled cheese...

Unlikely Unions
YOUR INNER-CHILD GREW UP

Unlikely Unions

There’s nothing quite like the timeless comforts of a warm grilled cheese or an ice-cold popsicle... especially when they come with booze. A few such glorious unions that got caught in our crosshairs last year were the Grilled Cheese and Wine Dinner at Three Sheets and Shot-sicles at Tin Lizzy’s. Childhood, meet debauchery. Debauchery, childhood.

The Year of the Supper Club
DINNER WENT UNDERGROUND

The Year of the Supper Club

The underground dinner party served you well in 2010. You broke bread in the Hidingers’ living room at Prelude to Staplehouse, ate on the floor with your bare hands at Spice Route and fell upon a wine-drenched backyard at Blu Gorilla. You do your best dining in undisclosed locations.

Republic Social House
YOU FOUND A NEW ROOFTOP

Republic Social House

Republic caught our eye for a number of reasons. Sure, the house-infused jars of habanero tequila and gratis whiskey shots at 1:38am helped. But mostly, it was the giant rooftop. And in a city starved for it, RSH reminded us that topside shenanigans are still alive and well. And never to be confused with bottomside shenanigans.

Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range
GUNS: FIRED. NUMBERS: EXCHANGED.

Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range

You know your way around the business end of a Smith & Wesson. But the ante was officially upped when we told you about a little gun club run by a pair of sharpshooting brunettes with a penchant for style. And by style, we mean a members-only lounge dripping with flat-screens and leather. Shoot hard, lounge hard.

Buckhead Bottle Bar
BUCKHEAD EARNED A STRIPE

Buckhead Bottle Bar

There was a lot of hype and idle chatter behind the debut of Buckhead Bottle Bar back in May. And thanks to an ever-rotating cast of stalwart cocktails and clacking stilettos, it’s been packing the house ever since. No offense to the cocktails, but we’re pretty sure that other part is leading the charge.

Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery
MAIL-ORDER MOONSHINE ARRIVED

Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery

If you found your white lightning intake at an all-time high this year (and you did), you probably owe it to the shine runners from Tennessee’s first legal moonshine distillery. And since you may or may not frequent the Gatlinburg nightlife circuit, they’ll deliver the hooch right to your door. Take that, pizza.

Empire State South
BOCCE GOT ALL SOUTHERN ON US

Empire State South

The rise of the Southern chef came to a head when Hugh Acheson set up shop in Midtown. Empire State South injected the local meat-and-three with a healthy dose of good bourbon, Boiled Peanut Hummus and courtyard bocce. Yet another three that happen to pair well with meat.
