Spice World
Decatur’s New Indian Street Food Spot
Lamb hash sloppy joes.
Hindi graffiti.
Every spice ever.
These are the kinds of things you find on the streets of Decatur.
Wait. We meant India.
Or was it Decatur...
Either way, here comes
Chai Pani, a bright and airy new Indian spot brimming with spicy rum drinks,
spicy chicken kebabs and spicy... you get the idea, opening Friday in Decatur.
This is coming to you by way of Asheville. That’s where the original location lives. And now there’s one
in the old Watershed spot. Can’t miss it. It’ll be the one with the concrete bar, bright red walls and a
huge
hand-painted advertisement of a Hindu lady drinking what appears to be a cold and refreshing beverage.
It’s like some kind of old Indian marketplace in there.
See to it that you’re in Decatur around lunchtime Friday. It’s fast-casual during the day, so place your
order at the counter and find a table. Soon enough, someone will swing by with some
Bombay Chili Cheese Fries (they’re topped with spiced lamb hash) and a coconut rum and
red chili cocktail (it’s topped with coconut rum).
And should your lunch thing spill over into a dinner thing, you’ll notice a few changes happen. They’ll
eliminate the counter service, get some low backlighting going and crank up the Bollywood music.
Looks like your lunch thing is spilling into a dinner thing.
