Kingdom of Kevin
Kevin Rathbun’s Stunning New Steakery
Nice job last night.
Way to buy roses and go out to dinner and whatnot.
Also, congratulations: you’ve officially made it past the date-night practice round.
We’ll see you next week at graduation...
And we’ll see you at
KR SteakBar, Kevin Rathbun’s sexified new date spot for the voracious
consumption of cured meats, perfectly marbled steaks and a boatload of fat Italian reds, taking reservations
now for Wednesday night’s opening in Peachtree Hills.
This is Kevin Rathbun’s way of filling a void in the city’s
classy-steakhouse-with-amber-tinted-chandeliers-and-dry-aged-meat-slabs scene. The result:
one huge,
dimly lit room with glowing walls, schoolhouse chairs and communal tables made of solid Michelangelo
marble.
Bring a hard-to-impress date here. Walk through the front door, past the iron gate inside, and look for the
wraparound island bar with the row of leather wingback chairs flanking it. Those are for sitting there
sipping Manhattans and eating steaks. So sit there and do that.
And when your date calls for a change of scenery, decamp accordingly into the dining room and ply your trade
there for a while. The menu was inspired by “the fifth cut,” which is apparently Italian for turning
otherwise unused meat parts into the delicious version of tongue, feet and jowls. Tripe stewed with cured
pork jowl. That kind of thing.
You know, that kind of thing.
