The General
A New York–Style Deli in Emory Point
Turn to the person on your left.
Now turn to the person on your right.
Now slowly stand up and walk out of the room.
Good.
We just wanted you to be the first to know about
The General Muir, a New York–style Jewish deli
from the West Egg guys doling out all manner of matzo ball soup and house-smoked pastrami for your morning,
afternoon and evening pleasure, opening tomorrow for breakfast and lunch in Emory Point.
This is about as textbook New York deli as New York delis come. They start slinging poppy bagels shortly
after 6:59am. They’ve got black banquettes for sitting, lamb sausage sandwiches for eating and an open
kitchen for... looking into an open kitchen.
Pop in early and stay awhile. The dining room’s to your left. The deli area is to your right. And the
counter where you’ll pull up a seat and order a black coffee is right in front of you. That’s also where
you’ll send for a little breakfast number called
The General (pastrami, eggs and latkes with
applesauce and sour cream).
Or maybe it’s a plus-one or plus-three scenario right around dinnertime (when they open for dinner on
Monday, that is). Opt for a booth. Then opt for ordering some griddled veal heart over dill and arugula for
the table.
Then opt to eat it.
