YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTIONThe Box-Free Turntable
There are many reasons the LP went out of fashion. The boxiness of turntables wasn't one of them. (Okay,
maybe it was a tiny reason.) Still, just in time for the recent vinyl revival comes this minimalist record
player, which is basically a needle and (like
others) includes a cable to turn records into MP3s. Scratching not encouraged.
PLINKOLike Shazam for Art
You already know Shazam—you hold up your phone to "hear" a song, and the phone tells you what song it is.
This does that, but for art—take a picture of a painting, sculpture or carefully constructed doodle with
your phone, and it shows you the details behind it. Now you'll finally know the Old Master behind Dogs
Playing Poker.
UNDER AETHERSwim Season Arrives
The sun is brighter, the water's warmer, you have a sudden urge to rub suntan lotion on petite strangers:
yes, swimming season has finally arrived. Here to stand between you and skinny dipping: Aether, a line out
of LA that's introducing a new set of tech-forward swimwear made from quick-drying microfibers. And like
that, your towel girl is unemployed.
IT'S FIVE O'CLOCK SOMEWHEREThe Happy Hour Watch
In a welcome case of function following form, this watch does two things: it tells you how long it is until
happy hour (five o'clock's the only hour on the face), and opens bottles. Suddenly, every other watch on the
market seems weak.
PC WORLDThe Computer from WarGames
Before he was Ferris, Matthew Broderick played David Lightman, a teen who stumbles onto a computer that
simulates World War III. (Or something.) Anyway, that computer—an invaluable piece of cinema history—is
going up for sale. Your estimated cost: 25 grand. History doesn't come cheap.
