![]() GOOD CONDITIONCask Ale Partying at a VFW
The pomp and circumstance is over. The New England Real Ale Spring Exhibition gets under way tonight in
Somerville, transforming a normally underused VFW hall into a rowdy pub scene. There'll be sandwiches from
Redbones, an ample selection of cask-conditioned, hand-pumped ales from the UK and maybe a few D-Day
survivors...
![]() TOP SHELFPre-Prohibition Cocktailing at L'Espalier
While you have no peers when it comes to mixing up modern-day refreshments, your pre-Prohibition cocktailing
skills are a bit rusty. On Thursday, L'Espalier will feed you gratis smoked salmon while showing you how to
create (and sample) a mean Ramos Gin Fizz and other flavorful concoctions from the 1890s to 1920s,
allowing you to party henceforth like it's 1899.
FULLY STOCKEDFree Beer and Cheap Gear at Uniform
Now that winter lies gloomily on its deathbed (coughing and spewing temps in the mid-50s), Uniform is
throwing a raucous in-store party tomorrow (with a DJ... and his headphones), where you'll land 20% off new
spring and summer threads from Original Penguin, Diesel and more. There will also be plenty of beer from
Victory Brewing Co. being handed out, which never hurts the polo-buying experience.
![]() SIMPLY RED... AND WHITEGratis Wine on Newbury Street
There are a few things you should know about Bauer Wines' free wine tasting on Saturday: (1) It's two hours
long. (2) They'll have six wines, three reds and three whites, for you to compare and contrast. (3) They'll
also have tickets to the much-ballyhooed Wine Riot coming up in April. We only hope this year they control
the looting.
DOWN ON THE CORNERA Backyard BBQ, on the Sidewalk
If you can almost smell BBQ season, it's because Formaggio Kitchen is firing back up their Saturday BBQ series this
weekend. They'll be smoking plenty of fresh chicken, ribs and lamb (using a variety of woods), all of which
you can buy and consume streetside. They'll also be experimenting with pork BBQ this time around (shoulder,
ribs, etc.), probably after realizing that pork BBQ is super effing delicious.
