In terms of weekend getaways, generally it's go big or go home—and since going home would defeat the
purpose, 102 striking cliffside acres ought to do it.
Time to start exploring the mammoth, majestic new Terranea Resort. It's just 20 miles past LAX, and
it's accepting reservations now.
Just one wrong turn away from plunging your ride into the Pacific, you'll arrive at a sprawling
Mediterranean cluster of rooms, suites, bungalows and villas—most with ocean views, all with private
patios. But since you like a little more action with your relaxing, you'll probably spend quality time
outside the room at one of the three pools (one has a waterslide, one's for the 18-and-over
crowd—tough call) and miles of hiking trails along the shore.
If you really want to Zen out, you could get lost in the 50,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor spa, with a
lounge facing the water and fire pit–furnished hideaways out in the gardens. And a nine-hole golf
course is coming next month.
But we'd be remiss if we didn't mention the crowning achievement of this historic patch of land—long
before the Terranea came along, the cliffs served as the location for the entrance to the Batcave on the old
Batman TV series.
