Ah, the recipe for restaurant success.
Take West Village Italian warhorse Da Silvano: mix a little pasta, a neverending parade of models, mayors
and moguls, a few magnums of Barolo and enough crazy Italians running around to stir things up, and you've
got your go-to spot for penne and people watching.
So when we heard that the DS empire was continuing its West Village conquest, we knew we had to bring you
your first peek inside Scuderia—the new casual Italian eatery from Silvano and his daughter
Leyla—opening Monday directly across from the original.
Think of Scuderia (a sort of No. 1 team in Italian) as a younger, hipper version of Da Silvano—perfect
for when you want beef cheek ragu with a little less scene (but just a little). Amble in and you'll find
yourself in an airy room with a rustic-industrial vibe that seems lifted right off of a Firenze high street.
Orange stools, dark wood tables, walls covered in chalkboard graffiti and old rock records (from Silvano's
personal collection—he learned English from the Rolling Stones) keep things spirited…
But the food is pure Silvano—Italian comfort food with an American twist (we like the Grilled
Cheese with Speck & Rosemary), perfect for a late-night bite or an impromptu date.
And if you're looking for something a little more out of sight, there's a VIP seating area hidden above the
bar, far away from any windows or paparazzi.
Because lately they have just been all over you...
